C2 GIVES BACK
This year, the C2TV Awards are excited to give back and uplift the youth within our community by donating the remaining proceeds from our 2023 C2TV Award Ceremony to The Laila Dance Conservatory (LDC). We thank you all for your support in funding this event, as it wouldn’t be as incredible as it is without you all! We also want to thank TUBI and all of our sponsors for all that they do! Below is a message from Laila Abdullah, Director at The Laila Dance Conservatory. If you are interested in donating, please click the button below! We greatly appreciate you!
The mission of The Laila Dance Conservatory is to enrich, inspire and transform the lives of individuals of all ages through dance education that values the importance of dance in promoting life-long physical and emotional health. LDC Arts program engages youth and adults in movement exploration activities designed to improve mental awareness, breathing, sore joints, muscular strength, cardiovascular and emotional health, mobility, and balance. The MM (Mindful Meditation) Series integrates a disciplinary approach that embraces the concepts of mindfulness that have been shown to:
1. Increase focus, attention, self-control, and compassion.
2. Improve academic performance, ability to resolve conflict, and overall well-being.
3. Decrease levels of stress, depression, anxiety, and disruptive behavior.
Exercises are done in a chair and focus on embracing body awareness through breath, isolation, and polyrhythmic movement culminating in a cultivation of joy that drives away the feelings of insufficiency, judgment, distress, and suffering that currently characterize the atmosphere due to the current pandemic. The ultimate goal of the series is for participants to develop a personal connection and appreciation of how dance can inspire human relatedness, empathy, compassion, and kindness.
Mindfulness Movement for All (MM) is just one of the programs offered by The Laila Dance Conservatory. The Laila Dance Conservatory specializes in “Dance of the Diaspora” - a perspective arising from an understanding of the “genealogy” of dance which illustrates that dance knows no cultural boundaries. The Afro Fusion elements are essential to understanding diversity and social change. Exploration of various expressions will inspire you to appreciate movement. Afro Fusion/MM Class is held at Hawthorne Memorial Park on Saturday mornings from 11:00-11:50am. For more information, please visit https://www.cityofhawthorne.org/
